Originally designed by noted southern architect Gene Hamm in 1966, it was called Sea Gull Golf Course for its proximity, as the sea gull flies, from the Atlantic Ocean. The layout is the fourth oldest on the Grand Strand of Myrtle Beach and the farthest south. In 2006, the layout underwent a major renovation by Thomas Walker, re-emphasizing its links-like terrain and large green complexes. It is still a favorite of local golfers. And as part of the Founders International Golf Group, members of the semi-private Founders golf course have access to the company's 22 other courses in the area "“ at discount prices.

Myrtle Beach International Airport is less than 45 minutes; Charleston's airport, a fine alternative, is just over an hour.
