About The Aiken Golf Club
Looking for golf homes on The Aiken Golf Club? Discover golf properties located in or near golf course communities in Aiken, South Carolina. From luxury estates overlooking the greens to comfortable homes within golf communities, there are options to fit a variety of lifestyles and budgets.
The Aiken Golf Club is one of the most historic golf courses in the nation. Founded in 1912, the club's Donald Ross designed layout opened a few years later and, over the years, played host to many of the luminaries of the sport, including U.S. Open winners, like Chick Evans and Julius Boros, and legendary female golfers of the 1930s like Babe Zaharias and Patty Berg. (The ladies were especially drawn to Aiken because the club was the first in the nation to include women's tees in the layout.)
Aiken Golf Club started out as a private resort course but today is not only open to the public, but a membership brings full reciprocal golf at nearby Cedar Creek Golf Club, a classic Arthur Hills design. The membership dues are so reasonable that quick back of the napkin math shows that the return on investment is only six rounds per month. If you are a five round a week player, membership at Aiken or Cedar Creek is for you.
Since the surrounding neighborhoods and Aiken golf course were initially developed together before the Roaring 20s, the real estate itself is of historic note, with plenty of old and charming homes, including some of mansion size. Homes beside Aiken Golf Club are much prized and not often available for sale. But when they are, buyers should be ready to swoop in quickly. Building lots are a bit more available to those looking to build their dream home in an historic setting in the charming town of Aiken.
