Jasper County, named for the Revolutionary War hero William Jasper, lies between two national forests: the Sabine National Forest to the east, and the Angelina National Forest to the west. The deeply forested area was originally settled in the late 1870s, as saw mills sprung up in the virgin pine forest. The Rayburn Country Club is located in the small town of Brookeland, Texas, which has a population of only 300 people.
